Zinnias are native to the southwestern
United States into Mexico and South America. Their native habitat is dry
grasslands and scrub areas. There are some shrub species but we are
concentrating here on the annual varieties named by Mother and these are
categorized under Zinnia elegans and they love hot climates! Zinnias are
easily grown from seed and are available in garden centers throughout the
world. They transplant easily from the seedling stage to a container or in
flower beds.
In all, Mother named fourteen zinnias by colour and gave the 'General
Significance' Endurance, for all zinnias.
Below are two lovely forms, the first a light green that I grew for the
first time and was delighted to send it to Mother. She named it
'Spontaneous Endurance'.

Spontaneous Endurance
Mother's comment: "Smiling, effortless and natural."

Spontaneous Endurance

Joyous Endurance
This beautiful
coral-pink flower I sent to Mother at about the same time. She named
it Joyous Endurance and Her comment is: "It keeps smiling whatever
happens."
